Bex Rimmington BlogJuly 2009Bex Rimmington was representing Great Britain at the Para-cycling Europa Cup in Piacenza, Italy at the weekend. Riding with visually impaired stoker Lora Turnham on the tandem the pairing started Saturday with the 72km criterium around the town centre. In 38 degree heat, it was the pairings first international outing against most riders who were in Beijing. The first few laps were active with different countries trying to separate the group, however it was the Irish and German pairings that got away leaving Bex and Lora with the Italians, Spanish and Canadians. The Spanish soon tailed off leaving just the three, fighting for bronze. On the last lap coming into the final climb, the Canadians clipped off the front and the the Italians chased, with the British pair on there wheel, Bex and Lora then put in a big turn of speed sprinting to the line to take the bronze medal.
On Sunday it was the 21km time trial, Bex and Lora were the second tandem off behind the German winners the day before. The British put in a great ride to almost catch the Germans, posting the fastest time until the final riders, the Italians, managed to just sneak under the British pairs time. Bex and Lora finished with the silver.
